Between Dec. 1. 2011 and Mar. 1. 2012 it will be possible to experience the interactive sound and light installation “Husum’s Stemme” in Husum – a suburb of Copenhagen.

3 glowing heads are hanging from electric poles in the street, and speaks to the people walking by:

The project are made in a collaboration between the artist Karoline H. Larsen and Club 348 – a club for schoolkids between 8-12.

12 young girls from Club 348 made up their own sounds for the heads by going to the streets and record people’s voices in Husum.

The heads themselves are made of IKEA trashcans, recycled rubber tubes and LED-lights. Inside, the “skulls” are stuffed with electronics. They are controlled by a Fez-board connected to a PIR-sensor (like the ones for garden lights) – When people are passing and activating the sensor, it triggers one of around 150 audio files, recorded by the girls in Club 348 – and the audio triggers the LED-stribs.

I did all the technical stuff, but received help with the Fez-programming (Visuals C#)  from Sune Hede and Carl Emil Carlsen
