Søren Lyngsø Knudsen (b. 1983) is a Danish artist, based in Copenhagen, whose work challenges the traditional boundaries between sound and visual art. His diverse artistic output spans a range of media, including computer graphics, installation, sculpture, and music. However, his primary focus remains the exploration of the interplay between sound and visual elements and how they can shape our perception of space and time.
Knudsen’s fascination with sound began in his teens, when he became immersed in the electronic music scene. A path he followed as a student at DIEM, the electronic music composition course at the Royal Academy of Music, from which he graduated with a Master’s degree in 2009.
His interest in electronic music eventually led him to experiment with the creation of computer-generated audio-reactive visuals. What began as a background to his electronic music performances soon became a passion in its own right, as he discovered the potential of sound as a medium for creating visual art.
Through his innovative use of technology, Knudsen has created a unique artistic language that seamlessly blends sound and visual elements. His works are often immersive, inviting viewers to become active participants in the experience by interacting with the environment around them. In this way, Knudsen’s work becomes a form of communication between the artist and the viewer, each bringing their own interpretation and experience.
Over the years, Knudsen’s work has been shown in numerous exhibitions both in Denmark and abroad. His work has been praised for its ability to transcend the traditional boundaries of art, creating a sensory experience that is both deeply personal and universally relatable. Through his multimedia creations, Knudsen invites us to explore the world around us with fresh eyes and ears, reminding us of the infinite possibilities that exist when we allow sound and visual art to come together in unexpected ways.
In addition to his artistic activities, Søren Lyngsø Knudsen is also an accomplished inventor and entrepreneur. In 2008, he founded his own company, Vector, which specializes in creating innovative technical solutions for artists, composers, museums, and other cultural institutions. Through Vector, Knudsen has been able to apply his technical expertise and creative vision to a wide range of projects, developing hardware and software solutions that bridge the gap between art and technology, – and leave a significant impact on the cultural landscape
In recent years, Knudsen has also become involved in the world of synthesizer design, co-founding the company Miso in 2020. Miso produces high-quality hardware synthesizer modules in the popular Eurorack format, and Knudsen has played a key role in the development of the company’s products. As a passionate musician and artist, he brings a unique perspective to the world of synthesizer design, creating products that are both innovative and artistically inspiring.
