I am Søren Lyngsø Knudsen (b. 1983) – a Danish artist, based in Copenhagen
My artistic practice explores the intersection of sound, technology, and human perception, with a particular focus on making invisible processes tangible through experiential works. Through custom-developed technological solutions and innovative approaches to sound, I create works that challenge our understanding of space, time, and our relationship with technology.
As a sound artist and composer with a Master’s degree from the Danish Institute of Electronic Music (DIEM) at the Royal Academy of Music, I combine technical expertise with artistic vision to create works that bridge the gap between complex technological systems and human experience. My practice frequently involves developing custom software and hardware solutions to realize artistic concepts, particularly in the realm of sound synthesis and interactive experiences.
My work often explores how invisible technological processes and natural phenomena can be made tangible through sound and interaction. Recent projects have investigated themes such as data flows, environmental changes, and the hidden infrastructures that shape our modern world. These explorations frequently take the form of large-scale works that invite audience participation and create immersive environments where technology becomes a medium for artistic expression.
A significant portion of my practice involves creating site-specific works that respond to and interact with their environments. These pieces often incorporate elements of sound, light, and movement to create dynamic experiences that evolve over time. Through these works, I explore how technology can help us understand and experience our world in new ways, particularly in relation to phenomena that are typically invisible or abstract.
The relationship between technology and nature is a recurring theme in my work, manifested through pieces that use technological means to explore natural processes or environmental changes. This has led to the development of various systems for translating environmental data and natural phenomena into sonic experiences, creating new ways for audiences to engage with complex scientific and environmental concepts.
Through my practice, I seek to create works that not only engage audiences on a sensory level but also encourage deeper reflection on our relationship with technology and the invisible forces that shape our world. This approach aligns naturally with scientific exploration, as both art and science seek to understand and reveal the hidden aspects of our universe.
